Travel and Transport

Specialist transport consultants have examined the transport aspects of our proposals. They have concluded that the impact of the scheme on the local highway network will not be significant, particularly when compared with the scenario if the existing Gillette buildings on the site were reoccupied for employment use.

In conjunction with our development, we would like to fund a number of improvements to the local transport infrastructure and services. These improvements will benefit local residents and businesses as well as our employees and guests. The measures will be subject to agreement with Hounslow Council but could include:

Syon Lane

  • a new pelican crossing outside the Gillette building; dropped kerbs to help pedestrians cross the road near Grant Way; and
  • measures to reduce queuing at the Great West Road traffic lights.

Great West Road

  • the refurbishment and upgrade of the subway under Great West Road, perhaps with the use of anti-graffiti paint, upgraded lighting and the provision of CCTV; and
  • a new pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights on the western arm of the junction with Syon Lane.

Public Transport

  • increasing the frequency of local bus services, particularly the H91;
  • improved accessibility to buses for people with disabilities;
  • raised kerbs at bus stops to help wheelchair users, people with prams and less mobile passengers board and alight buses; and
  • improved accessibility at Syon Lane railway station.

We would like to become involved with the Golden Mile Integrated Transport Group which is a group of major employers in the area who work together to improve local transport facilities and encourage their employees to travel to work using a green mode of transport.

We will implement a Travel Plan for our development which will help our employees to walk, cycle or travel by bus to work. We will help those people who have no choice but to travel to work by car to find a car share partner so that the number of vehicles using the local roads is minimised. The possibility of implementing a bus service to convey our guests from Heathrow to the hotel and conference centre will be investigated.

We will also consider implementing a car club within the development. A car club is a pool of cars which are available for use on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. This would allow employees to have access to cars for necessary business use during the working day, without having to drive their own vehicle to work during the rush hour. Vehicles could be made available to members of staff and local residents at evenings and weekends.
