Public Realm and Landscaping

The current proposals seek to create new and exciting open spaces for both public and private use. The creation of these spaces will help create a sense of place and stimulate activity, as well as improving permeability. Moreover, the proposed landscaping will frame the overall development and breathe new life into the setting of the Gillette Building.

A detailed landscape strategy has been developed as part of the Masterplan for the redevelopment of the Gillette Corner site and is based on the following:

  • creation of new courtyard areas located within the heart of the extended Gillette Building;
  • the formation of a new piazza located at the centre of the business campus providing new areas of seating, a water feature and interesting new landscaping;
  • provision of an avenue linking the southern frontage of the site (fronting onto the Great West Road) and the piazza area, providing a dramatic entrance way into the Gillette Corner site for pedestrians;
  • establishing a well defined crossover between the hotel and business campus, creating a strong link between the two uses.

At present, Gillette Corner is a secure site and not accessible to the public or those working/living in the surrounding area. The Masterplan proposes significant improvements to permeability by creating new areas of open space which will be open and available to the general public, increasing permeability both into and through the site.
